After the 61st Bratislava Music Festival, the Slovak Philharmonic begins its 78th concert season on 22 and 23 October. The orchestra and the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, prepared by chorus master Petra Torkošová, are conducted by Ondrej Olos, the orchestra's permanent guest conductor.1

The programme

The concerts open with Orawa, by Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, a piece inspired by the folk music of the Goral highlanders. Next comes Meditation for solo violin, 48 strings and timpani by Vladimír Godár, who marks an anniversary this year. Milan Paľa plays the solo part and is also the soloist in Leoš Janáček's violin concerto, The Wandering of a Little Soul.1

Janáček started the concerto after a visit to London in 1926, where violinist Adila Fachiri impressed him. Both evenings end with Franz Liszt's Dante Symphony.1

On Sunday, 25 October, at 16:00, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra gives the first of its season concerts in the Column Hall. Buyers of at least five concerts can put together their own subscription for the 2026/27 season, which runs until June 2027.1
